Henshaw said two men were largely responsible for subduing the would-be bank robber. One, a customer, happened to have a concealed-weapon permit. He went to his vehicle, retrieved his weapon and had Johnson at gunpoint while waiting for law enforcement, Henshaw said.

How fortunate. An honest citizen was armed and there before law enforcement. What is ironic is Des Moines County is not at all friendly to issuing concealed-weapon permits to honest citizens.

While this policy may earn accolades on the Ad Vertiser's page of unsigned editorials, is it a wise policy?

Crime grows as our local single party political system encourages emigration from crime ridden metropolitan bastions of similar single party power. It is one way to deliver their quota of votes to Des Moines.

How many of our ever increasing number of violent criminals file for a concealed-weapon permit? If this is how we must "Grow Greater Burlington," should we not at least be able to defend ourselves?

In her speech in Copenhagen today, First Lady Michelle Obama said her trip to Denmark, along with the travel of her "dear friend" and "chit-chat buddy" Oprah Winfrey, as well as tomorrow's visit by President Obama, is a "sacrifice" on behalf of the children of Chicago and the United States.

This just should just make you feel so warm and fuzzy. Little Richy Daley will be so happy. Bread and circuses coming to Chicago would take people's mind off the fact that the cupboard is bare.

Infrastructure crumbles. Public employees keep getting raises, but there is no money to pay them. Sell off any all assets to meet the next due date. All those people coming to that toddlin' on bankrupt town will just add to the demands.

When Little Richy turns Chicago's pockets inside out, who will pay for spectacle?

Lay off the police and fire departments. All hell will break loose. Watch the flames and mayhem on the tube. The state media will say it is due to economic inequality inherent in capitalism. The State of Illinois is broke. Obama and his Washington buddies will print more debt and cover it all.

Chicago is not an isolated example. Think Wrecked Plex, quiet downtown crossings, Vision Iowa, etc. etc. Remember, it is all for the children.

In another generation our children will be pulling wealthy Chinese tourists around in rickshaws. Our debtors will view the ruined splendor of what was once the world's wealthiest nation.

How will our children remember us?
