There have been news articles about pay scales decreasing or freezing across the Country and the State of Iowa over the last 2 years. The City Council of Burlington just last year voted unanimously to a 5-year contract with pay
raises and free health insurance every year. I believe it was 3-5 % pay increases each year. This was irresponsibly for our council to do this, when so many of their citizens are facing layoffs and furloughs. They just don't get it. They let our infrastructure deteriorate (Cascade Bridge) because the City can't afford to keep it up, but they have money for pay raises every year. Not one council member stood up and voted against those pay raises. They should have! And now they ask for our vote.
"I think you're already seeing improvements," he (Scott) said. "Our biggest accomplishment was getting our staff to recognize that repairing and maintaining seal-coated streets is a viable option."
We live in a virtual paradise. Streets and sidewalks are being fixed up. Beauty is replacing blight. Oh, my, how nice.
Obviously, it is election time. Would there be more than $100 left in the sidewalk program if different priorities were better set?
Scott is not touting his leading the charge to provide a local casino amusement park with a pile of our money interest free for ten years. Why do the responsible incumbents not want to remind voters of that big accomplishment?
If our collective memory is as short as the fiduciary responsibility of those seeking re-election, expect more of the same. We have only ourselves to blame.

Scott and the rest of these people are so far out of touch.
The established media is desperate. They are losing their power and privilege. We must bail them out.
New media is making the old unprofitable. The old media is admitting they can not adjust to the new. The old media wants not for profit tax breaks and "fees" to support "innovative local news groups." Does that mean Spike gets a grant too?
Why should we subsidize failure? If you can't stand the heat of the market, get in line at the soup kitchen.

If Publisher Steve Delaney believes one ounce of the bullshit he spouts in his rag about Free Speech, he and all the rest of his minions should be scared silly stupid.
State run means state run. It doesn't mean private business free to run willy-nilly with something other than what they are told to print.
And to think they all voted for Obama. Look what they have now. Maybe Mike sweet would like to opine about what a great misunderstanding this all is.
We can run this blog from anywhere in the world on a cellphone. Try that with a printing press.
