I totally understand the position the local citizens have to endure with a newspaper staff too lazy to fact check their sources. Dale Alison’s editorial on Monday was filled with multiple points of false information about Wal-Mart and the Maersk ship company.
Alison states he used Google “to fact check” his forwarded outdated email story. I guess that email that got Alison's attention must have been written during the build process of these ships before they actually went into service. Because fact is not his fiction.
This type of false reporting is indicative of the plague facing old school journalists trying to compete and succeed in the world of forwarded emails filled with B**S*** people like Captain “Barnacle” Dale Alison and his liberal mob suck up like cocaine and then spew forth an opinion that amounts to nothing more than polluted bilge water.
1. Contrary to Captain Dale, Wal-Mart NEVER commissioned any ship, let alone the Emma Maersk class vessels that Maersk operates.
2. Wal-Mart does not contract ship space. The manufacturer of the goods purchases transit space.
3. There are 8 Emma Maersk class ships, not 3 as suggested by Captain Dale. Even Wikipedia got that right.
4. The Emma Maersk class ships do not operate between China and the U.S. They operate exclusively between China and Europe through the Suez Canal. They never sail to America.
5. The Emma Maersk ships could never transit a trip from China to the U.S. in 4 days. It’s approximately 5,730 nautical miles between China and the western U.S. ports. It consistently takes 12 days to sail from China to the U.S. Did Captain Dale check his charts and then use a calculator to do his math? Or was this the same “Reader Math” used to calculate the number of newspapers readers for the advertising department.
6. Maersk operates most of their ships at reduced sailing speed. Their top speed is about 30 knots, not 50 knots as Captain Dale implies. They slow sail today at about 20 knots to conserve fuel.
7. Maersk NEVER operate their ships empty as Captain Dale suggests. NEVER! Westbound ships may carry some empty containers but they never sail empty.
8. It typically takes the average ship 24 hours to unload and 24 hours to reload. Not 2 hours as Captain Dale suggests. This is primarily due to the longshoremen work rules. Up until approximately 2+ years ago, the west coast docks worked one 10-hour shift per day.
Given this flagrant disregard Captain Dale has for checking any facts contained in a forwarded email (that looked so tempting) pertaining to ships that ply the world's ship lanes, how can we begin to believe Old Barnacle about anything else he or Steve Delaney try to shove down our throats? Maybe Captain Dale should check his assertion that 93% of what Wal-Mart sells is from China before he makes his Labor Day sermon.
Ol’ Barnacle better stick to his desk and leave the forwarded emails to the professionals and sailing to the sailors that know their stem from their booby hatch. And leave the big picture analysis to people that understand what it entails.
Would this be the reason Ol' Barnacle never put his column online for the whole world to sea?
25 businessmen willing to tip over the bus may explain why Tapp took a leap from the emergency exit. Is it possible Brian knew this was brewing?
It would be interesting to know the legal strategy. Is it simply to render the civil contract null and void, or will some of the void between the ears be facing criminal charges? Was there a quid pro quo involved for Tapp and others with the Illinois Department of Welfare, and/or Tyson's?
If there are people with the cash willing to take down SEIRPC, will it stop there? How deep could this go?
This test a must for anybody considering serving in local government. Are you lacking the "right stuff?"
The Supervisor's race of 2008 is History. Too bad. Had you acted sooner, Jeff Heland could have you used you to continue a spend thrift majority on the Des Moines County Board.
The ticket is sealed for 2010. Like Chicago's Cubs, there is always next year. The Wrecked Plex, Huck's Hole and now the Capital-less Theater, Burlington's City Council is always looking for a few easily fooled.
If you passed the test and know that what sounds too good to be true is never true, forget it. Odds are against your ever being elected. Removing Hoschek two years ago was like seeing Haley's Comet.
...The Obama administration has shelved the planned prosecution of Abd al-Rahim al-Nashiri, the alleged coordinator of the Oct. 2000 suicide attack on the USS Cole in Yemen, according to a court filing. The decision at least temporarily scuttles what was supposed to be the signature trial of a major al-Qaeda figure under a reformed system of military commissions.
…Military officials said a team of prosecutors in the Nashiri case has been ready go to trial for some time. And several months ago, military officials seemed confident that Nashiri would be arraigned this summer.
“It’s politics at this point,” said one military official who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss policy. He said he thinks the administration does not want to proceed against a high-value detainee without some prospect of civilian trials for other major figures at Guantanamo Bay.
The Democrats have been in charge of the Congress since 2006 and have since been leading our country into third world status.
The Democrats have created debt five times that created during the Bush administration in only four years. The Obamanomics theory of revitalizing the country has failed miserably leaving wreckage scattered country wide.
Bush tried to rein in Fannie and Freddy Mac but the Democrats would not listen and continued their party agenda of giving mortgage money to people with no source of income, no jobs and no assets. Those that did work were given loans far above their ability to pay and of course these loans were also government guaranteed.
We can only hope November sheds some light on improvement, something the democrats continue to fail at month after month. Tax and spend tax and spend where enough is never enough for them.
Here in Burlington the people should expect to be taxed to death because they continue to make this county a mind numbing one party unchecked and unbalanced democratic mess. Look at the states that are out of control and deeply in debt and you’ll find the one party democratic system just as in Iowa.
Wake up Burlington we don’t get many chances like this to make improvement; so vote out all the brain dead democrats you can.
I think there will be political carcasses lining the election booths on November 3 and the overwhelming majority of them will be Democrats.
"You may have heard the UPS is in quite the fight with FEDEX. Though both are package-delivery companies, they're governed by totally different federal labor rules. As a result, UPS's workforce is much more heavily unionized than FEDEX's—and more than twice as expensive.
So now UPS is trying to get FEDEX reclassified under federal law as a way of screwing a competitor. That's horrendous, but it also makes a sick kind of business sense. And it also reveals the real villain: A government that is big enough to absolutely, positively guarantee it can screw any business. Overnight.
"UPS Vs. FEDEX" was produced by Meredith Bragg and Nick Gillespie."
Your link on the University of Colorado closing down its Jimmy Olson factory was an indication of progress. Perhaps the faculty could be retrained in piston steam engine maintenance. A few threshing machines are still wheezing out in the fields.
The Ad Vertiser has become a mediocre student newspaper best suited for boiler kindling. Citizen Kane fills what was once an award winning, small town newsroom with college kids. The only cheaper labor is illegal aliens.
If Colleges of Journalism go away, who will put out the Ad Vertiser? Do you think promising 8th grade English students at Aldo Leopold could get work permits? If so, would anybody notice the difference?
"There's so much potential in this town, and I need to see what the potential is before I can help in any way, if I can as a congressman, to facilitate, especially along the lines of tax credits," Loebsack said after his tour of several businesses, both the recently opened ones and shops that have been in place for more than two decades."
It is an election year. The Nutty Professor is venturing south of Interstate 80. From his comments, did this guy have any idea he was in downtown Burlington? Did more bricks fall from the old J. C. Penney store facade and crown this clown on the mortarboard?
Free money for all and for some, a good Election night. Get ready to see those tax credits made up from your pay check.
When will the City of Burlington do something about buildings and pieces thereof flopping onto downtown streets and sidewalks? It has been more than a month since the last downtown building collapsed. We should be due.
The Most Fiscally Irresponsible Government in U.S. History Trickles Down to Des Moines County
Jeff Heland Most Fiscally Irresponsible Supervisor Yet!
"There is an instinctive conclusion among the American public that President Obama's stimulus package has failed to create a sustained recovery. Unemployment has increased, not declined; consumers have retrenched; housing starts have crashed along with mortgage applications; and there is a fear that a double-dip recession may very well be in the pipeline...
There is another instinctive conclusion among the American people. It is that the national deficit, and the debts we have accumulated, are of critical political importance. On the national debt, the money the government has spent without the tax revenues to pay for it has produced mind-numbing numbers so large as to be disconnected from reality. Zeros from here to infinity. The sums are hard to describe; it is hard to describe an elephant, but you know one when you see one. The public knows that, shuffle the numbers as you may, the level of debt is unsustainable."
Just translate the national message to Des Moines County. Next year, after Jeff Heland is found most weekends - starting on Thursday, shuffling through the regional casinos looking for lunch money, the results of his narcotic-like excess spending habits will come home to roost for Des Moines County taxpayers.
Every taxpayer needs to ask Heland 2 questions:
1. What is the county budget projection for next year? Then call the budget director to see if the stories match.
2. What happened to the $11 million dollar budget surplus?
Jeff Heland has fed off the public for a long time. Before that he fed off the corporate teat of excess until it no longer met his appetite.
Now, he can't get enough. More trips to the casino. Shorter float times on his gambling checks. His illness is insatiable desire to remove every dime in your pocket so he can live his life large.
It's time for Heland to get a real job whether it's the cart cowboy at Wal-Mart or a bag boy at Hy-Vee. Go back to your 2nd life across the river.
Just leave the wounded taxpayers alone to heal from your 4 years of unfettered spending.
University of Colorado Replacing its School of Journalism
Faculty a high-button-shoe faculty in a Nike world
""The University of Colorado is working toward replacing its School of Journalism with a program better prepared to shepherd students into a news industry trying to keep pace in a digital age...
The SJMC (School of Journalism and Mass Communications) and its dysfunctional faculty are hopeless," Looney wrote. "Prospects for improvement are nonexistent. It should be closed."
A short time later, other members of the advisory board agreed, signing a letter to DiStefano suggesting closing the school and consolidating "our best classes, our core classes," with ATLAS in an "academic unit that is steeped in the core values of journalism and media ethics."
"This new College of News, Information and Technology would include our highly respected advertising sequence; our news writing and reporting classes; our television on-air and production classes," the letter said.
Looney applauded Wednesday's announcement, saying it is the only way forward.
Seems like the only people surprised by the continued layoffs and total lack of hiring are the administration stooges supposedly in charge of cleaning up the Obama recession mess. Of course the main stream press is playing dumb as they always do when it comes to the Obama regime and we can expect nothing by lies from them.
In two years nothing has gotten any better and actually we are further in the hole than when the regime came to power.
Maybe the regime can get the state department to bow down as they did at the UN asking for help for our “supposedly” wicked ways of treating people. That’s right; the state department went to the UN asking for help; how disgusting and unprofessional of the regime to go whining to the UN on a domestic issue.
There is just no end to the failures orchestrated by this Obama regime all the while the American family suffers while the president takes vacation after vacation and plays more golf and basketball than any living president. Obama sure as hell isn’t suffering or tightening his belt and the American people can count on that.
The people are just screwed with this president and until 2012 were stuck with him and his stooges.
Remember to vote out the losers this coming November and put a crimp in his left wing agendas or the president will have ruined our country for good.
Union Members Have the Right to NOT Have Their Dues Used for Politics.
"Unlike workers in Right-to-Work states who can stop paying a union entirely, most union members do not have that right because they live in states without Right to Work laws. This fact leaves many union members frustrated because their dues are being used by union bosses for politicians and political causes the members may not agree with.
However, there are ways in which workers—even those who are required to pay a union as a condition of employment—can stop a union from using their dues money for politicians and political causes they do not support. This process is known as union members exercising their Beck Rights [named after union member Harry Beck, who successfully sued to stop having his dues money used for politics].
Bennet Bombshell: Trillions in Debt, ‘Nothing to Show for It’
Why Did Democrat Break Ranks? Fear or Global Realization of Stupidity?
"Michael Bennet, D-Colo,at a town hall meeting in Greeley last Saturday, Aug 21 said we had nothing to show for the debt incurred by the stimulus package and other expenditures calling the recession the worst since the Great Depression...
Regarding spending during his time in office he said, “We have managed to acquire $13 trillion of debt on our balance sheet” and, “in my view we have nothing to show for it.” Speaking of the debt, he said our debt almost equals the economy. Regarding the current job situation, Bennet said the situation has been dire for over a decade saying, “We have created no net new jobs in the United States since 1998” which were the last two years of the Clinton administration. Pointing to a slide showing budget expenditures, he said that currently 65 percent of the budget was for social security, Medicaid and Medicare expenditures and that we could not grow our way out of debt."
"Does Joe Biden really think we're heading in the 'right direction'? He came out yesterday talking about how great the stimulus has been and how we are headed in the right direction. REALLY now, Joe? Remember the Hindenburg Omen from last week? It was triggered two weeks ago- but it was also triggered again last Friday. A financial expert is now predicting the DOW will drop to 5,000 in the next few years..that ain't good, Joe."
I doubt Cahill made his “Kids” comment in the blind and/or without knowledge of what Burlington kids do for kicks these days.
The Hawk Eye would never report the true facts regardless of their being there or not. The Hawk Eye only prints what their told to print and I’m sure they were told not to print anything to the right of the local far left agenda.
Big Hollow is a total waste of money in the first place. I think the kids have enough stuff in the area to keep them occupied provided their parents are involved and know what their kids are doing.
Here in Burlington many parents are dependent on government to provide for their children because the parents are too involved in their own lives to be concerned about children. Just look around at what’s going on in this community.
People should read this letter to the editor The Hawk Eye “Attack was a gang game” that appeared the other day which may give some an insight into what’s going on in Burlington. this was all brought about by BrianTapp and Regional Planning and other so called do-gooder organizations.
Burlington has become the surrogate for the Columbus Junction Tyson plant. SEIRP became involved because it meant money for their bus business with little or no concern about what it’s done to Burlington, a city run by people who have no idea of what they’ve done to further destroy what was once a great place to grow.
Big Hollow will not be worth the price tag to the future of Des Moines County a fact that will be proven eventually because the demographics of Des Moines County are no longer what they were in the 50’s, 60’s or 70’s.
City and County leaders have dug us a hole and we’re fast filling it up behind us.
"Des Moines County had to repay Vision Iowa money because of Cahill's remarks in the newspaper about Big Hollow cabins becoming a place for "drunken kids" to hang out, etc."
Burlington's City Council has been known for harboring more than one drunk. Do you think any Sir John on the Council would tell the world that the Capitol Theater will become a place for drunken kids to hang out?
It would be a public service. If free money from the state of Iowa rebuilds the Capitol, it will become a ward of the City forever.
John McCain to "Regularize" Illegal Immigrants = Amnesty for Illegals
"Fox 10 News obtained a letter from McCain's office dated April 16 of this year.
In it McCain writes... "Let me be clear, I do not support amnesty. We can't reward lawbreakers, but we also have to deal with the reality of this enormous undocumented population."
The letter goes on to say... "We must provide these individuals with incentives to come forward, complete security background checks, pay any owed taxes and stiff penalties for breaking the law, learn to speak English, and regularize their status.""
Regularize sure sounds like amnesty to me. I'm sure the penalty to be in Mexico illegally is similar. You'd be regularized in a Mexican prison in about 30 days.
Obama's Faith Problem? Done by His Own Words & Actions
"Last week, a poll from Time Magazine showed that 24% of Americans believed that President Obama is a Muslim. A Pew Research poll also found that 18% had that same belief. What would cause so many people to believe this? Many on the left think the reason is that Americans are just stupid, ignorant or racist. Or maybe it's what CBS News' Bob Schieffer believes- that the internet is a 'breeding ground for freaks'. Or maybe, just maybe- it's the fault of the
President and his own words and actions. Glenn is in D.C. this week preparing for Saturday's Restoring Honor Rally."
I see where Iowa is the 5th highest in the country for income taxes imposed on its citizens which is understandable because state employees in Iowa enjoy the highest spread in income between government and the private sector.
Iowa government employees currently earn 45 percent more than private employees when performing the same job. I might also add that government employees nation wide have felt little to no effects of the recession since they are shielded from it through the high taxes imposed on the private sector. About all they feel is a day off now and then that is meaningless compared to the job losses experienced by the private sector.
Nationally government employees should have their salaries slashed at least 20 to 30 percent and pay a higher portion of their benefit package that would still leave them earning about 70 percent more than private sector employees.
The entire idea of government employees having unions is sickening and despicable in my opinion. Unions have no business in a government that bears no resemblance to public service but rather represents the destruction of our country by crooked union dealings, political blackmail and corruption.
Nothing in Washington or Iowa will change until the unions are gone from government that includes the schools that constantly fail in their prime purpose. Union control of teachers puts the student priorities in third place on the agenda scale. Union agenda is always politics first, teacher’s second and just maybe students in third if that high.
Mike Sweet cannot think past George Bush because he’s in a time warp from 2000 through 2008. He has no concept of the difference between right and wrong or good and bad because he can only think out of the left side of his brain while the right side lays dormant and unusable.
Mike is just a small town writer for a small town local paper that has an agenda of misleading the public by never telling the truth and always leaning left regardless of the truth. Mark Twain said, “Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt.” Mike should pay attention to Mark Twain on this one.
The local paper is nothing more than an extension of city hall and is controlled by 400 Washington Street. People in Burlington would be better off reading the Des Moines Register where they at least publish unbiased news and print investigative stories that are totally ignored here unless city hall gives the okay.
Now for the school board, Mark Twain also said, “God made the Idiot for practice, and then He made the School Board.” This fits Burlington’s school board to a T.
"Between her blog and infrequent contributions to ehow.com, over the last few years she says she’s made about $50. To [Marilyn] Bess, her website is a hobby. To the city of Philadelphia, it’s a potential moneymaker, and the city wants its cut."

Tax and spend crazed local government is not just our local problem. Tax and spend is out of control everywhere. Feed the beast and devour its critics.
Derailed has carried no advertising. Derailed does not charge to subscribe. This does not mean Derailed is exempt from license and tax persecution.
More than one local office holder no longer holds office thanks to Spike. How much money has Derailed saved local taxpayers through exposing the incompetence, ignorance, intoxication, etc. of local office holders?
As the Hawk-Eye once did, Derailed provides local news of tangible value. Something of value is being exchanged. Therefore, Derailed is a business. Tax Derailed.
To tax, you must first identify. Once you identify, you may persecute. Send in the Building Inspectors, Fire Marshall, Heal Inspectors, etc.
Anonymous free speech must be squelched today. Tomorrow, officially sanctioned speech only. Read all about it in the Ad Vertiser.
Philadelphia freedom has become a contradiction terms. If the First Amendment can taxed and destroyed in liberty's cradle, why not Burlington?
"Thousands of vehicles were bogged down Monday in a more than 100-kilometre (62-mile) traffic jam leading to Beijing that has lasted nine days and highlights China's growing road congestion woes.
The Beijing-Tibet expressway slowed to a crawl on August 14 due to a spike in traffic by cargo-bearing heavy trucks heading to the capital, and compounded by road maintenance work that began five days later, the Global Times said."
"Is the Obama administration fundamentally transforming our relationship with Israel? All signs point to 'yes' and tonight, Glenn will explain how and why- plus, the wait is almost over. This is the week we've been waiting for..the Restoring Honor rally is this Saturday..just five days away-and Glenn comes to us tonight and every day this week live from Washington, DC. as we start the countdown to restoring honor to America. Tonight's guests include Frank Gaffney, former assistant secretary in the Reagan Defense Department."

What If George W. Bush Acted Like Obama? Would Mike Sweet Hyperventilate & Ultimately Pass Out?
If George W. Bush made a four-hour stop in New Orleans on his way to a $3 million fundraiser would the main stream liberal media report it?
If George W. Bush had made Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu leave through the same door as the White House garbage would you be embarrassed as a U. S. citizen?
If George W. Bush snubbed the Dalai Lama would the Democrats criticize Bush's foreign policy expertise?
If George W. Bush signed off on a secret deal with drug makers to pay for their silence in pending legislation would the main stream liberal media cry for his impeachment?
If George W. Bush froze out a TV network wouldn't every other network run the story?
If George W. Bush did as many fundraisers as Obama would Nancy Pelosi scream for investigation of that funding?
If George W. Bush surrounded himself with criminals and terrorists would you have approved of a Justice Department investigation?
If George W. Bush played as much golf as Obama would the main stream liberal media cry he was insensitive to the problems of this country?
If Laura Bush dashed off to Spain in Air Force 2 with 40 of her close friends to party down would Jesse Jackson call it racial inequality?
If George W. Bush had been the first President to need a teleprompter installed to be able to get through a press conference, would you have laughed and said this is more proof of how inept he is on his own and is really controlled by smarter men behind the scenes?
If George W. Bush had spent hundreds of thousands of dollars to take Laura Bush to a play in NYC, would you have approved?
If George W. Bush had reduced your retirement plan's holdings of GM stock by 90% and given the unions a majority stake in GM, would you have approved?
If George W. Bush had made a joke at the expense of the Special Olympics, would you have approved?
If George W. Bush had given Gordon Brown a set of inexpensive and incorrectly formatted DVDs, when Gordon Brown had given him a thoughtful and historically significant gift, would you have approved?
If George W. Bush had given the Queen of England an iPod containing videos of his speeches, would you have thought this embarrassingly narcissistic and tacky?
If George W. Bush had bowed to the King of Saudi Arabia, would you have approved?
If George W. Bush had visited Austria and made reference to the non-existent "Austrian language," would you have brushed it off as a minor slip?
If George W. Bush had filled his cabinet and circle of advisers with people who cannot seem to keep current in their income taxes, would you have approved?
If George W. Bush had stated that there were 57 states in the United States, would you have said that he is clueless.
If George W. Bush would have flown all the way to Denmark to make a five minute speech about how the Olympics would benefit him walking out his front door in Texas, would you have thought he was a self important, conceded, egotistical *****.
If George W. Bush had been so Spanish illiterate as to refer to "Cinco de Cuatro" in front of the Mexican ambassador when it was the 5th of May (Cinco de Mayo), and continued to flub it when he tried again, would you have winced in embarrassment?
If George W. Bush had mis-spelled the word "advice" would you have hammered him for it for years like Dan Quayle and potatoe as proof of what a dunce he is?
If George W. Bush had burned 9,000 gallons of jet fuel to go plant a single tree on Earth Day, would you have concluded he's a hypocrite?
If George W. Bush's administration had okayed Air Force One flying low over millions of people followed by a jet fighter in downtown Manhattan causing widespread panic, would you have wondered whether they actually get what happened on 9-11?
If George W Bush had failed to send relief aid to flood victims throughout the Midwest with more people killed or made homeless than in New Orleans, would you want it made into a major ongoing political issue with claims of racism and incompetence?
If George W. Bush had created the position of 32 Czars who report directly to him, bypassing the House and Senate on much of what is happening in America, would you have approved.
If George W. Bush had ordered the firing of the CEO of a major corporation, even though he had no constitutional authority to do so, would you have approved?
If George W. Bush had proposed to double the national debt, which had taken more than two centuries to accumulate, in one year, would you have approved?
If George W. Bush had then proposed to double the debt again within 10 years, would you have approved?
Finally, if you were a natural born U.S. citizen with a backbone and were accused of being a Muslim immigrant born in another country wouldn't you just rub the accusers face in your birth certificate right before you kicked their ass?
Segregation in the 20th Century 2 - America Revealed
"We've covered a lot of history over the last few days- everything from the Indians and pyramids in Ohio to indentured servitude and the first slave owner in America being a black man. Tonight's show begins where yesterday's show left off- right around the turn of the 20th century. If you asked several people which political party were the racists that wanted to segregate the population- most of them would probably say it was the Republicans. Well, let's just see
what history has to say about that. Warning: This program contains Glenn having to talk about Woodrow Wilson- alot."

Union Bailout Bill Could Gain Traction - Just Add to the Taxpayers' Bill
"The addition of a powerful Senate ally may be what supporters of a new union bailout bill need to get legislation passed that would put the responsibility for funding union pension plans on the shoulders of American taxpayers.
That new ally is Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), the Senate’s number two Democrat and longtime union ally. The bill, the Create Job and Save Benefits Act of 2010, is the plan of Sen. Bob Casey (D-Pa.) and had languished in committee since March 23.
With the addition of Durbin – who lent his support shortly before the Senate went on summer break – the bill could see new life, especially since Senate Democrats failed to pass the Employee Free Choice Act, known as Card Check, a top priority of their union allies."
The Public is Learning the Truth about Net Neutrality
"On August 11, more than 150 organizations (including 35 TEA Party groups), state legislators and bloggers signed onto a pair of letters urging the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to give up on their unilateral Internet power grab – the reclassification of the Web under the oppressive 1930s land line telephone regulatory regime, and the implementation of Network Neutrality.
...We became part of a great and growing bipartisan chorus all singing the same song – that the FCC is dramatically overreaching in trying to assert this sweeping new authority. More than 284 members of the United States Congress – from both Parties – have also signed letters stating the same.
"You know about the great heroes of the Civil Rights movement like Martin Luther King, Jr. and Rosa Parks. You also know that slavery was one of the worst scars on our Republic- and to this day, it still tears us apart. But just how did slavery in America start? You might..no, you WILL be surprised... open your eyes and your mind and you will see and hear history like never before. Tomorrow's show will pick up where today's left off."
The idea of getting a lot of something for nothing, or a little more than nothing, is a menace. When what you risk is other people's money, the danger increases. Adding alcohol only makes it worse.
Examine local government. I-Jobs has become like free senior breakfast morning at a casino. The State of Iowa dangles an enticement and local government buys in. Our grandchildren will still be paying on projects that will never pay back.
It all sounds exciting and too good be true. Remember the "for the children" premise promise of Huck's Hole. That sucker bet keeps on sucking. The hollow promise of Big Hollow projects is more funny funding and games.
Elected leaders suffering from a gambling disorder need help. Those like Senator Courtney who spread their affliction by enacting enabling legislation like I-Jobs need help.
They all need your help to be voted out of office.
Crumbling houses, streets and bridges abound. Borrowed money for government foolishness leads to increased debt and taxes. Jobs are scarce and pay poorly. Drunks and irrational dreamers pretend to be leaders.
What is news to Pravda is nothing new around Burlington. It has been ongoing for decades. Is the rest of America simply catching up with us?
"Candidate Jeremy Walters of Des Moines wrote on his Facebook page that the Bible says gays should be killed, and that he believes AIDS was designed by God to kill them.......
Later Tuesday, Matt Strawn, the party's chairman, said in a statement: "Mr. Walters' comments are inappropriate and in no way represent the beliefs of the Republican Party of Iowa. HIV/AIDS does not discriminate, and our hearts and prayers go out to any Iowa family facing this disease."
“He’s saving the city,” Culver said, referring to first-term Democratic Gov. Chet Culver who is trailing Republican Gov. Branstad, who served four terms from 1983-99, in recent polls."
Governor Chet Culver is sinking. His father, former U. S. Senator John Culver, is back in Iowa trying to rescue his son. John Culver has some experience when it comes to pulling politicians from deep water. Unlike Kennedy the younger, Culver the younger appears to be a total boat anchor.
Like tax and spend Chet, tax and spend Jeff is in trouble. Voters denied Heland his Southeastern Community College Board position last year. Heland is up for re-election as County Supervisor this year. Heland's mouth has run him off the bridge.
Will the local single political party try a rescue?
The U. A. W. is the dominant Soviet in the local single party Politburo. Heland has been affiliated with an AFL-CIO People's Republic of lesser local status. Heland's stupidity has resulted in embarrassing honesty.
Tax and spend without end, forever and ever. The U. A. W. rulers of the Politburo must be disturbed with Heland for telling the truth. The truth is something U. A. W. star State Senator Courtney knows to avoid. Senator Courtney is not up for re-election this year.
So far, Heland has stayed behind the outhouse door. Heland can not keep hiding. Will Senator Courtney be sent on the stump to save Heland? A swift kick to the shins under the table to stop telling the truth would benefit Heland.
It will be interesting to see if Soviet solidarity will apply to Comrade Heland, or if he will left to freeze in a Siberia of his own making.
"If the Obama administration really cared so much about religious freedom, why did they officially state their intention to rescind the Freedom of Conscience Act? They're OK with a mosque run by a potentially radical nutjob- but they won't stand up for students who want to pray outside the Supreme Court and would like to force doctors who believe abortion is immoral to do the procedure anyway and essentially commit murder in their own minds? They seem to be slightly out of step with the average American..don't ya think?"
I would like to have an explanation from someone as to the work - OR LACK OF - on the intersection of Mt. Pleasant Street and Roosevelt. I drive through there frequently and for some time now I've rarely seen anyone working.
I know there's water setting in the areas that were dug out, but to that I say, "Pump it out!" That is one of the busiest intersections in Burlington, and having it torn up is a major inconvenience. If the project work would have been done in a continuous manner it would still take several weeks. At this rate, it's likely that we'll be driving around the barricades, cones, etc. in January of 2011. As for the $390 fine for turning left, how about putting some police out there to see the people driving through McDonald's and Hardees to turn left or drive across the street into the BP station.
My other gripe is the utility pole prop on Sunnyside. A car hit the pole on Friday and since then a huge Alliant truck has been sitting on the street propping the pole up. The only thing around it is about 4 cones - no lights. At night it's not easily seen either because Sunnyside curves there.
The answer is simple but not simplistic. The business community has no faith in the President and he is seen as not only anti-business but anti-Free Markets.
Throughout his campaign he said that we need to "change the economy" - but how? Going a speech at the Cooper Union in March 2008, he expressed his distrust of Free Markets and announced his intention to fundamentally change American Capitalism. Without listing every instance of his attempts to live up to this promise we need only point to three instances:
When announcing the start of the Health Care Initiative he said that reform of the health care sector was a good way to start because it represents 1/6th of the US economy. So now every employer has to provide health care or face a fine and pay a tax on top of that.
The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act [the so-called stimulus] is largely devoted to expanding the role of the Federal Government through oversight of the expenditure of the appropriated funds. So instead of using unexpended stimulus money to fund an extension of unemployment benefits we have Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid calling Congress back into session to pass legislation that only increases the National Debt.
Then there is the euphemism called the "Employee Free Choice Act" better known as "Card Check." Probably the single most anti-business, anti-worker, anti-democratic piece of legislation since the New Deal. Underlying all of this is the President's Council of Economic Advisors. Every one of which is a left-leaning Ph.D., no one of which has ever run a business. And, while his so-called Council of Business Advisors is comprised of Fortune 500 CEOs, there is not an entrepreneur among them.
So at this point it is all perception. Every action the President takes or espouses that does not support free markets or punishes success just reinforces the conviction that this administration just doesn't get it. Instead it spreads FUD - Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt."

The entire subprime problem will again surface with GM buying AmeriCredit a company that was a prime cause of the economic melt down because is specializes in making loans to people with very poor to no credit. AmeriCredit is also big in union loans but that shouldn’t surprise anyone when the biggest union boss in America is Obama.
This will put our children’s children in the bag to pay for another GM failure through AmeriCredit risky loan business. They’ll be giving away GM cars again until the bubble breaks and the entire cycle of economic meltdown repeats itself.
Obama Motors shows it’s incompetence to succeed just as the president does time after time.
The taxpayer is also doling out money to 17 of the worst managed states in the country because their ignorance and incompetence in economic matters scrapes the bottom of the barrel.
Why should other states be responsible for irresponsible administrations in other failed state governments?
Meanwhile Obama runs around campaigning under the guise of concern for the economy while lying about there being a recovery.
Obama has proven he’s less than intelligent in government matters time and again so: so wake up America.
"While the President was hosting a dinner for the Muslim holiday Ramadan and out celebrating the 'recovery summer', the economic warning signs continued..the latest one is a rather scary one called the 'Hindenburg Omen', a technical indicator that is said to signal an upcoming stock market crash. On Friday, while Obama was having his Ramadan dinner, we met the requirements for the omen. The chances of this
happening are pretty good- every NYSE crash since 1985 has been preceded by the Hindenburg Omen."
Brian Tapp is gone. I have seen an Interim Director mentioned as handling the Southeast Iowa Regional Planning Commission. Who would best replace Tapp?
Using the template Tapp established, what qualities would be useful? Ignorant, arrogant, incompetent and/or intoxicated conjures up some candidates. Where is Hoschek these days? Does Diewold have a day job? What about one resigned from the Mayor's chair? After November, could County Supervisor Heland be in the running? Trousil is out. Hans has a gig for life.
If the Interim Director gets the nod, what about an assistant? See the above.
Around here, the name may change, but things remain the same.
"President Obama has abolished the position in his White House dedicated to transparency and shunted those duties into the portfolio of a partisan ex-lobbyist who is openly antagonistic to the notion of disclosure by government and politicians.
"How many more months must Americans endure near-double-digit unemployment, little or no new-job creation, economic stagnation, a topsy-turvy stock market, and sagging consumer confidence before Washington politicians concede the "summer of recovery" is mostly a mirage?
Obama cites religious freedom in defending mosque near ground zero
"President Barack Obama delivered a strong defense Friday night of a proposed Muslim community center and mosque near ground zero in New York, proclaiming that "as a citizen, and as president, I believe that Muslims have the same right to practice their religion as anyone else in this country."
After weeks of avoiding the high-profile battle over the center — his press secretary, Robert Gibbs, said last week that the president did not want to "get involved in local decision-making" — Obama stepped squarely into the debate, leaving little doubt on his stance.
"I understand the emotions that this issue engenders. Ground zero is, indeed, hallowed ground," he said in remarks prepared for the annual White House dinner celebrating the Islamic holy month of Ramadan."
I guess Barry Sotero didn't read the security briefing to find out that the same money behind the Gaza boat flotilla runs right to the front door of this mosque.
Barry and his crowd better keep pace with their vacations. They will only be there one term.
Our President has spent like a drunken sailor. The Narcissus of Nairobi has let ego over ride reality.
Awash in debt as a result of Obama's spending, Congress is being forced to do what they always attempt to avoid. The pork barrel is running dry and some will not get all they want.
Whose nose must be pushed from the trough? Cannibalism is setting in among the various Socialist interest groups.
Those below the poverty line on food stamps are not known to be generous political contributors. Public employees and their unions have much to invest in political races. The disturbing rate of return public employee unions buy with political contributions is well documented.
Other big winners are local versions of tax spend without end. What would have gone for food stamps is bailing out the likes of Senator Courtney and Supervisor Heland. Manna from Washington will only help delay their day of budget reckoning.
If your readers go to this web site Hitler and the Volkswagen I think they can see many parallels between what Hitler did with Dr. Porsche and what Obama has done with GM.
Hitler stole the money to finance the factory in Fallersleben from the Jews and taxes while Obama stole the money for his company from the children of America who must pay it back eventually.
Hitler had strong ties to the unions similar to Obama whose latest bale out is for his union donors, again stealing the money from the children of America to fulfill his pledges to unions although his unions are all government workers who also paid for his campaign.
That sign in western Iowa was telling the truth and no one was listening.
Obama Says Recession Over Amid Economic Turmoil on Wall Street
"Wall Street gave a thumbs-down to the economy as the Dow Jones slipped into the red for the year.
The Dow Jones tumbled 265 points on Wednesday amid growing worries that the world economy is weakening. The pessimism from traders came one day after the Federal Reserve downgraded its outlook for the economic recovery amid fears of a double-dip recession.
Wednesday's tough day on the markets is the latest piece of difficult news for the White House, which is trying to promote last year's $787 billion stimulus through a series of events it has dubbed the "recovery summer."
Kotlikoff: U.S. Is Bankrupt and We Don't Even Know It
"Let’s get real. The U.S. is bankrupt. Neither spending more nor taxing less will help the country pay its bills.
What it can and must do is radically simplify its tax, health-care, retirement and financial systems, each of which is a complete mess. But this is the good news. It means they can each be redesigned to achieve their legitimate purposes at much lower cost and, in the process, revitalize the economy.
Last month, the International Monetary Fund released its annual review of U.S. economic policy. Its summary contained these bland words about U.S. fiscal policy: “Directors welcomed the authorities’ commitment to fiscal stabilization, but noted that a larger than budgeted adjustment would be required to stabilize debt-to-GDP.”
"The euro-zone economy grew at the fastest pace in four years in the second quarter, driven by an unexpectedly strong surge in Germany, preliminary data showed.
The combined gross domestic product of the 16 countries that use the euro grew 1% compared with the first three months of the year, marking the strongest quarterly expansion since the second quarter of 2006.
GDP, which measures the total value of goods and services in the economy, was also 1.7% higher than in the second quarter of 2009, the sharpest annual increase since the first three months of 2008."
"The worst of the recession is over? Tell that to the thousands of people who filled the streets of an Atlanta suburb in the sweltering heat for just the CHANCE to get on a waiting list for federal housing that will not be available for years.
Unemployment is up to 9.6%. The Fed is downgrading the economic outlook and buying our own debt. Jobless claims rose to the highest level in six months. Obama's claim that the worst is over flies in the face of economic reality."
6 B’s – Bee’s Baseball, Big Hollow, Bike Trail, Big Building = Brian Tapp
It’s Only Going to Cost $1+ Million More
Lots of speculation surfaced when Southeast Iowa Regional Planning director Brian Tapp’s sudden departure from his position. Most thought it was the continued reports over sexual harassment. Others likened it to Bruce Slagle’s sudden resignation as a result of multiple failures. Turns out, it might be nothing more than Tapp protecting his resume.
Tapp was the fountain of free taxpayer money. Regional planning wrote the opus on how to steal free money from the taxpayers and squander it on less than solid projects.
Tapp was the nucleus for the Vision Iowa project. Slagle, Edwards, Tapp, Power and Ell needed a deflection from the failed railroad lawsuit. They needed something to take the sting of stupid out of their shorts.
So Tapp talks the Bee’s into a grand remodeling project, the county into a bike trail, building Big Hollow and his board of silly directors to buy a building so his buddy can unload a white elephant and his other buddies, Tri-Oaks, can get office space dirt cheap.
Seeing disaster looming on the horizon and people ready to talk about the dark side of Brian Tapp’s foolish financial endeavors, Tapp skips town, clean résumé intact. He can always state he did this and that, never admitting the multiple failures and need for taxpayer infusion of gobs of cash to cover his flawed number crunching.
While he can boast and the Ad Vertiser will print their BS account of the story, we all know why he left like the carpetbagger he really is. Tapp was an infertile economic development hack.
The only testament left unresolved to Tapp’s sorry ass monumental list of screw-ups is Tyson and his recruitment of crime to Iowa. The poor people that needed a job will forever be associated with the criminal riff-raff that tagged along.
That is unconscionable and with moral turpitude.
And now, it’s our turn to pay for his incompetence.
Other than high crime and a white elephant building in the dictatorship of West Burlington, what will Brian Tapp's legacy be?
Tapp left the Southeast Iowa Regional Planning Commission in a hell of hurry. When the heat was on Al Capone, he would skip town. Al was usually still game for some good ink talking with reporters on the station platform just before his train pulled out.
Tapp never said squat. There was nothing in the Ad Vertiser about why Tapp left. Was Tapp not talking, or was it a silence of lovers parting?
Will we ever know the whole story? Will it take Federal Prosecutors to pry out what went on?
His legacy will be that of immoral scoundrel quick to steal taxpayer money.
The union has asked a judge to order the school board to again include Pfizer Inc.’s erectile dysfunction drug and similar pills in its health insurance plans.
The filing is the latest in a two-year legal campaign in which the union has argued, so far unsuccessfully, that the board’s policy of excluding erectile dysfunction drugs discriminates against male employees."
"As president of the United Mine Workers (UMW) union, Trumka led multiple violent strikes. Trumka’s fiery rhetoric often appeared to condone militancy and violence, especially against workers who dared to continue to provide for their families by working during a strike. As a Virginia judge ruled in 1989, "violent activities are being organized, orchestrated and encouraged by the leadership of this union."
Take the murder of Eddie York, a nonunion contractor, who was shot in the back of the head and killed while leaving a worksite in 1993. Trumka and other UMW officials were charged in a $27 million wrongful death suit by Eddie York’s widow. After fighting the suit intensely for four years, UMW lawyers settled suddenly in 1997 -- just two days after the judge in the case ruled evidence in the criminal trial would be admitted.
Later, as Secretary-Treasurer of the AFL-CIO, Trumka pleaded the Fifth Amendment before Congress and a court-appointed election monitor over his role in an illegal fundraising scheme to benefit the Teamsters president Ron Carey’s re-election. Trumka has remained in his position ever since despite an AFL-CIO rule (adopted in 1957) which held that union officials who plead the Fifth have “no right to continue to hold office” in the union umbrella organization."
Have you seen our Congressman in an open questions town hall meeting lately? Odds are you will not. Dave has lots of explaining he would rather not do.
There is nothing sexist in Dave's desire to avoid debate. Dave does everything Nancy Pelosi tells him to. That is why we have a health care system looming the vast majority wanted no part of. We have a whopping debt hanging over the heads of generations to come for a lot more than Obamacare.
Dominatrix Pelosi has instructed all slavishly devoted to her to avoid exposure of their relationship. Dave must campaign. He will stand close to the dungeon door with controlled events.
Do not let Dave seek safety in the shadows. Attend such events. Demand answers. Does what has been going on represent what is best for our future?
Taxation's cat-o-nine tails will lash ever longer if we acquiesce.
Romer is best known for drafting the February 2009 report "The Job Impact of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Plan," which the White House used as an ammunition belt in the fight to gain passage of its $862 billion economic stimulus bill (the actual cost of which exceeds $1 trillion when interest is included). Romer predicted that following passage of the stimulus bill, unemployment would plateau below 8 percent last fall and by this month register at 7 percent.
That's not close enough for government work, as unemployment stands at 9.5 percent today. It would be higher except that hundreds of thousands of frustrated job seekers have given up looking for new jobs and dropped out of the labor force."
“Don’t leave me swinging in the wind until November,” Rangel said at the conclusion of his speech. “If this is an emergency to help our local and state governments out, what about me?”
...Rangel: “Last year, the Sunlight Foundation claimed to have documented 28 instances in which ‘Rangel omitted assets worth between $239,026 and $831,000 that were either purchased, sold, or held from his financial disclosures.’”
That could happen to you? You could — oopsie! — simply fail to declare assets worth over $200,000, and do it 28 times?
I advise you to try that when you file your taxes. When the IRS comes to arrest you, give the armed federal agents a 37-minute stemwinder where you say, “Forget about the law, what about me?” Let’s see where that gets you."
The Ground Zero Mosque & The Gaza Flotilla, Kagan & Hamas
"Tonight we look into the 'Ground Zero Mosque' and the Imam behind it. Religious freedom is one thing, but shouldn't we be investigating Feisal Abdul Rauf's intentions and radical ties? This doesn't sit well with Americans..Almost 10 years after September 11th and the World Trade Center hasn't been rebuilt, yet they are OK with opening a mosque at the scene were radical Muslims murdered 3,000 of our citizens?"
I see where Jeff Heland was up in Oakville sniffing around our newest city in the county. Instead of charging mileage for a campaign trip maybe Heland could tell us what happened to the $11 million dollar budget surplus he squandered in the last four years?
And how he thinks the 11 residents in Augusta can afford a new sewage system without the taxpayers paying for it?
It doesn't really matter. When my taxes shot up again, this year 17%, Jeff better hope his gambling trips are paying a better return.
84 Days to Decide: Democrats Roll Dice With Education Aid Vote
"The American people don't want more Washington 'stimulus' spending -- especially in the form of a payoff to union bosses and liberal special interests," he said in a statement last week. "This stunning display of tone-deafness comes at the expense of American workers, who will be hit by another job-killing tax hike because Washington Democrats can't kick their addiction to more government 'stimulus' spending. Democrats should be listening to their constituents."
We all know what Dave will do. He'll be face down in the slop. He doesn't listen to us. Loebsack is the Parisian Prostitute's hand maiden.
"What were the dreams of your father? No matter your answer- Chances are your father didn't dream of leaving his family behind to continue his education at an Ivy League school, so that he could take that American government-paid education back to his home country, along with a woman he picked up in Boston who would become his third wife, to encourage his nation to drop the newfangled socialism being promoted, in favor of old-style Soviet Marxism. How many of our fathers had that dream? I can think of only one..."
Burlington, IA, violent crime, on a scale from 1 (low crime) to 10, is 7. Violent crime is composed of four offenses: murder and non-negligent manslaughter, forcible rape, robbery, and aggravated assault. The US average is 4.
Burlington, IA, property crime, on a scale from 1 (low) to 10, is 6. Property crime includes the offenses of burglary, larceny-theft, motor vehicle theft, and arson. The object of the theft-type offenses is the taking of money or property, but there is no force or threat of force against the victims. The US average is 4.
Thirty-two crimes committed in five days equates to something like 160 or so per month provided the first week of August was average.
Of course the thirty-two are only those crimes reported and probably do not represent the maximum for the week but it does show that crime is high for a city boasting only about 26,000 souls.
In a normal year we can assume something in the area of 2000 crimes as being reported indicating a crime rate of approximately 769 reported crimes per 100,000 population.
The chief of police says crime it steady or down but I really think that statement is the same as Obama saying the country has turned the corner when we all know it hasn’t by a long shot.
"The new application proposes a "GreenLine" approach that would include environmentally friendly efforts in construction, operation and local development related to the railroad project, Culver said."
Was Iowa's Governor denied a Lionel set one Christmas as boy? Chet Culver is at again wanting tax money to support his train layout. Five hours from Iowa City to Chicago is not high speed transportation.
To get the green for Culver's nostalgia machine, passengers will be eat locally grown produce on recycled paper plates. After all, 22 years ago failed to be President Mike Dutaxes of Massachusetts was telling us we should grow Belgian endive instead of corn and soybeans. Political correctness is more important than economic realities, like Illinois and Iowa both being broke.
Chetty's Choo-Choo is not just about getting suburban Chicago students home for the weekend from the U. of Iowa. This train is bound for Omaha, someday. Of course, Des Moines is right on the way.
Once that happens, rail passenger service across Southern Iowa, including Burlington, will be only a memory. Vote for Chet and the only local express will be your regrets.
This is so far in the future. Nothing to worry about except the taxes trying to pay for it.
Freddie and Fannie need to be shut down and all the dimwits working there should be fired along with “Twinkle Toes” Bawney Fwank and the “Special Low Mortgage Man” Chris Dodd’s both of whom haven’t a dimes worth of sense.
Frank won’t spend a dollar of his own money to enter a gay club but will squander billions of taxpayer dollars on his worthless pet government companies that he and Dodd’s did their best to destroy while having their hands in the till for campaign funds from both organizations.
It must take a “Special Person” to vote into office people like these two criminals Fwank and Dodd’s we could also throw in the witch Pelosi also, and make it a trio.
Chicago is going broke. The price of being foolish is going up. A bad risk pays more to borrow. Those who have run and been run by Chicago are now running America.
"Obama’s fifth trip to Chicago since his inauguration in January 2009 comes as Broadway Bank, the now-defunct institution Giannoulias’s family operated, was in the headlines again this week because of a newly reported 2006 loan to convicted Illinois influence peddler Antoin “Tony” Rezko."
Nobody can do it all alone. A candidate for the U. S. Senate in Illinois with family ties to a failed bank needs bailed out. Just like Wall Street, Obama is there to do all he can since he once sat on the bank board.
Our Congressman has done his part. He has voted to break the bank on programs like Obamacare and others the majority do not want. Our Congressman is in trouble as a result.
Do you think Obama will come to Burlington to bail the Nutty Professor out?
The country I was born into was a country that had existed steadily, for almost two centuries, as a nation in which everyone thought—wherever they were from, whatever their circumstances—that their children would have better lives than they did. That was what kept people pulling their boots on in the morning after the first weary pause: My kids will have it better. They'll be richer or more educated, they'll have a better job or a better house, they'll take a step up in terms of rank, class or status....
But they look around, follow the political stories and debates, and deep down they think their children will live in a more limited country, that jobs won't be made at a great enough pace, that taxes—too many people in the cart, not enough pulling it—will dishearten them, that the effects of 30 years of a low, sad culture will leave the whole country messed up."
Did anyone in Iowa really think Iowans weren’t drowning their sorrows? With the democrats running things we have nothing to look forward to except debt and misery while those living off government see no effect on their incomes because welfare puts a buffer between them and real life.
It would seem the have nots are now the haves while the working few are now the have nots. There are so many freeloaders invading our ignorant and poorly run state, it’s to the point of implosion.
Why is there nothing being said in the press about New York allowing the building of a Mosque near ground zero? What kind of hypocrites are these people giving the okay for such blasphemy to American sacred ground?
While visiting Pearl Harbor I never saw a memorial to the Japanese there where less than 2500 Americans were killed; about 1000 less than 9/11.
Maybe we can now put a memorial in Washington honoring Adolf Hitler and all the fine things he did for humanity. Anyone allowing a Mosque on 9/11 soil surely can’t object to a Hitler memorial in Washington. Hitler is no different than the current extremist Muslims running around killing and beheading innocent people.
The left will stop at nothing to honor misfits and killers of the innocent while at the same time destroying our national heritage.
Whale crap would be a step up for the left provided they could even step up from the bottom of the ocean.
An old prospector shuffled into the town of El Indio, Texas leading an old tired mule. The old man headed straight for the only saloon in town, to clear his parched throat. He walked up to the saloon and tied his old mule to the hitch rail.
As he stood there, brushing some of the dust from his face and clothes, the young gunslinger Obama stepped out of the saloon with a gun in one hand and a bottle of whiskey in the other.
The young gunslinger Obama looked at the old man and laughed, saying, "Hey old man, have you ever danced?"
The old man looked up at the gunslinger and said, "No, I never did dance... never really wanted to.."
A crowd had gathered as the gunslinger grinned and said, "Well, you old fool, you're gonna dance now," and started shooting at the old man's feet.
The old prospector, not wanting to get a toe blown off, started hopping around like a flea on a hot skillet.
Everybody was laughing, fit to be tied. When his last bullet had been fired, the young gunslinger Obama, still laughing, holstered his gun and turned around to go back into the saloon.
The old man turned to his pack mule, pulled out a double-barreled shotgun, and cocked both hammers. The loud clicks carried clearly through the desert air. The crowd stopped laughing immediately.
The young gunslinger Obama heard the sounds too, and he turned around very slowly. The silence was almost deafening. The crowd watched as the young gunman stared at the old timer and the large gaping holes of those twin 10 gauge barrels. The barrels of the shotgun never wavered in the old man's hands, as he quietly said, "Son, have you ever kissed a mule's ass?"
The gunslinger Obama swallowed hard and said, "No sir...... but... I've always wanted to."
There are a few lessons for all politicians here:
Never be arrogant.
Don't waste ammunition.
Whiskey makes you think you're smarter than you are.
Always, always make sure you know who has the power.
Don't mess with old folks, they didn't get old by being stupid.
"“Even after bonding for desperately needed infrastructure investments through I-JOBS, we maintain one of the lowest debts among states – a testament to our very careful and cautious budgeting and spending practices in this state.”
"Today's show is once again centered around yesterday's 'video of the day', where Democratic Rep. Pete Stark said the federal government could do almost anything they wanted to. These are his constituents and arrogance just oozes out of him. He's not even trying to hide it. Now, if this was just one lone arrogant jerk then it wouldn't be THAT big of a deal-but it's not just him. I think this is how the overwhelming majority of our congressmen and senators view you. They hold you in contempt. They think you're stupid. How many days again til November 2nd?"

Iowa's current top four selling liquors are strictly paper bag and the Manor Mall. Nothing works alone, or on ice and water until you get to number five. If you can believe recent trends, times may get better.
I would ask what our local leaders drink, but they have neither taste, nor sense. If we get rid of them, is there a chance of being able to afford an occasional bottle of Green Label Beam instead of green bottle Thunderbird?
The national news services have been running stories about Democrats running. Not just for office, but away from their leader in Washington.
New programs not wanted, increased debt and eventually taxation to pay for it all plus a total disregard for the peoples wishes have consequences. People are mad. When was the last time our Congressman faced a town hall meeting where questions were not controlled?
Will the disgust with Washington cause local Democrats to avoid our representative in Washington who has voted to make it all possible?
Will Jeff Heland still stand by his friend of tax and spend without end? What about any of the rest?
"Last week Glenn showed us the left's playbook, the manifesto from the Weather Underground. These guys exemplified what it means to be a '60s radical: They'd do whatever it took to overthrow America and- in their words- "institute communism and a dictator." If you missed it, you should really go back and watch. The evidence is quite overwhelming. You’ll see this radical thought is commonplace with the powers in and around the current administration. Tonight, you'll see why the 'new radicals' are the same as the old ones."
Parisian Prostitute Pelosi or Queen of Me? - My Dog Makes More Sense!
SF is correct about Nancy Pelosi where in California she’d be right in there with the other nuts and fruit cake losers that populate that state, while in the Midwest she’d be better known as common street trash at best.
Hopefully her face surgery won’t let go or there’d be immense collateral damage to those in the vicinity.
We have nothing to feel good about concerning Washington and Pelosi but plenty to worry about as our country is destroyed from within by agenda driven lunatics from the democratic party.
Remember what the regime’s agenda is destroying and vote them all out in November.
The Parisian Prostitute Pelosi was interviewed on CNN this weekend by Christiana Amanpour. I thought I was watching al Jazeera until I saw Pelosi's flying monkeys.
When I looked at the dog wanting to take a walk I realized the dog could get the point across better than the Botox Queen or the Queen of Me.
Actress Lindsay Lohan was released from jail early Monday after serving 13 days of a 90-day sentence and taken straight into a rehabilitation program, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department...
She booked into an all-female jail in south Los Angeles on July 20 and was placed in solitary confinement -- a blow to newspaper headline writers who had excitedly predicted she would be victimized by lesbian gangs.
But her sentence was reduced for good behavior and under early-release programs to combat overcrowding in Los Angeles' budget-strapped jail system."
If she would have gone to the jail where she lives, Lohan would have done 90 days. Instead she goes to the jail that is overcrowded and gets special treatment.
Another Progressive Socialist Democrat Bites the Dust
California Progressive Democrat Maxine Waters is headed to the Ethics Committee. Waters has been under investigation for a possible conflict of interest involving a bank that was seeking federal aid. Her husband owned stock in the bank.
