Burlington Derailed — The Continuing Story

Bruce Slagle, Doug Worden and Bill Ell’s Broke-Is-Broke Ponzi Scheme

Burlington’s 30-Year Downfall = Doug Worden’s Time in Office

Whenever we went after ex-mayor Lost Keys Bill Ell and his incompetent Big Boob, Best Incompetent Friend Doug Worden, the town wags and ne’er do wells all rallied behind the two incompetent lard asses and smothered them with affection and sloppy, wet kisses. Pole Dancer and part-time Publisher Steve Delaney ignored the news leads since his business editor was day dreaming about amusement parks while eating Sweet's magic brownies.

Ell was always telling us how great the ex-city manager and bona fide criminal, Bruce Slagle, was so worthy of his salary, benefits, car allowances and pay raises. Ell was so entranced and mesmerized he allowed Slagle to fill out his own performance review. And they just plowed the dough into these incompetent slobs bank account

Meanwhile, the flip-flop Mayor and former business teacher Dudley Davidson was drinking up the criminals' slop through his profoundly myopic telescope. Never close enough to see anything but close enough to run and hide.

No one saw it coming until the new city manager made an honest assessment less than 30 days after taking office. Less than 30 days to uncover 30 years of lies and deceit.

So back up all you Ell, Slagle, Worden, Davidson French kissers. You’re about to get that big, sloppy, wet taxpayer kiss. Again.

There are only two questions to ask.

How long has the city council known that Worden was shuffling the accounts with negative balances?

How long before a criminal investigation is needed?

Can’t happen here? Tell that to the taxpayers in Dixon, Illinois.

No Diewold Endorsement From Bauer Tire

Spike,

Before anyone believes they might want to waste their vote for Ben Diewold, maybe they should ask around to see if Bauer Tire would be willing to step forward with an endorsement for Diewold.

It would be best to do that by phone though.

And while you're at it, call a couple more of Diewold's former employers.

And maybe he could forward his college transcripts and diploma to the newspaper to see how they view their shining star's perspective of free speech.

Leading City Economic Indicator

Spike:

Here are some pictures of a building falling down from neglect that is all too familiar to the citizens of Burlington. Our city is more interested in wasting money on dreams of grandeur while failing to work within their
budget provided they even have one.

One way to cut the budget is to roll back city wages and benefits at least 20 to 30 percent for hourly personnel and reduce the salaries of department heads which is now running at about $99,000.00 plus benefits down to $80,000 plus benefits. Public employees in Burlington are earning far more than the equivalent earnings in the private sector and unlike the private sector wage increases are based on nothing more than showing up for work regardless of performance or quality of work performed.

If we were getting our monies worth from city government we wouldn't have to borrow money to pay them and the infrastructure wouldn't be in a shambles.

Obama - Liar or Hawaiian?

1. Several weeks ago the story broke that Obama listed himself as born in Kenya in a self-written bio for the publisher in 1991.

2. His publisher accepted and promoted Obama as born in Kenya for years. Until Obama wanted to run for President. Now, she has nothing to say.

3. When this event was uncovered, the publisher claimed it was a fact checking error. For years.

"Submission guidelines at the Dystel & Goderich website (original emphasis): "[Y]ou should describe in two or three sentences—no more—what the book will be about. This is followed by another brief paragraph on why it is being written and then another on why you are qualified to write it....Finally, there should be a more formal narrative Bio of the author."

So you decide. Liar or Hawaiian?

Meet ‘Flame’, The Massive Spy Malware Infiltrating Iranian Computers

Kaspersky Lab is calling it “one of the most complex threats ever discovered.”

This Ain't Your Momma's Chevy

"A massive, highly sophisticated piece of malware has been newly found infecting systems in Iran and elsewhere and is believed to be part of a well-coordinated, ongoing, state-run cyberespionage operation.

The malware, discovered by Russia-based anti-virus firm Kaspersky Lab, is an espionage toolkit that has been infecting targeted systems in Iran, Lebanon, Syria, Sudan, the Israeli Occupied Territories and other countries in the Middle East and North Africa for at least two years.

...Early analysis of Flame by the Lab indicates that it’s designed primarily to spy on the users of infected computers and steal data from them, including documents, recorded conversations and keystrokes. It also opens a backdoor to infected systems to allow the attackers to tweak the toolkit and add new functionality.

...“It took us half-a-year to analyze Stuxnet,” he said. “This is 20-times more complicated. It will take us 10 years to fully understand everything.”

Dateline - Never Burlington

Spike,

"Criste Scarnati, publisher of the Prairie City News, has reported numerous stories that call into question oversight of the PCM school district’s budget. But today, the scribe puts down her pen to lead a group of more than 20 local taxpayers who petitioned a state appeal board to shoot down the district’s 2012-13 budget."

The publisher of a small town weekly is going to the mat with local her local school district. Despite run ins with local school officials for access to public information, the Prairie City News has exposed a raft of questionable practices and expenditures of public money. Ms. Scarnati's disgust has taken her to the point of becoming personally involved.

Compare that with what goes on in Burlington.

Quote the official line. Never investigate what is really going on. Say nothing until a web site forces you to after the fact. Puff your chest about the public's right to know and smear a little ink over the guilty.

Cristie Scarnati is not Pole Dancin' Citizen Kane. The Prairie City News is not the Burlington Ad Vertiser. For that the residents of Prairie City should be extremely grateful.

Bad Teacher Outted

Spike,

Congratulations to that student that didn’t sit back and listen to the liberalized teacher lie about respecting Obama because he was president and telling him Bush had people arrested because of people not respecting him, an outright lie.

Liberal teachers filling students full of crap is one of the most important reasons for the failure of American government schools. That teacher was forcing her politics on that student through twisting history and facts to suit her needs. Any teacher that projects his or her political views should be terminated.

Political correctness should have no say in the classroom which should remain politically neutral which just isn’t the case in liberal unionized American government schools any longer.

ITED Test Scores Rank Notre Dame as 9th Best in the Iowa

Spike:

Last week, the Hack Eye had a report on the Iowa Tests of Educational Development scores and Notre Dame of Burlington ranked 9th out of 365 public and private schools with a score of 91.2 percent versus Burlington High Schools score of 76.5 percent with a ranking of 268th place. West Burlington came in at a score of 82.4 percent or 140th out of the 365 high schools.

Of course Laurie Noll, curriculum director of the public school district, questions the authenticity of the report. I guess that comes naturally to Ms. Noll since a public school education in Burlington cost twice what a private schools education costs and to have such a low score would necessitate a comment of “questionable” by local school officials.

Unionized school systems are more about the teachers, administration and other employees than it will ever be about the students which I’m sure accounts for the extreme high cost of public education with the lower test scores both of which go hand in hand. Leftist public school unions are more interested in the left agenda with the democrats where the teacher unions give them money and votes in order to maintain their wages, benefits and retirement that’s based on nothing more than showing up for work regardless of the quality produced. The onset of teacher unions is when the public schools began to fade and produce something other than educated students that has dropped U.S. public schools to a ranking of 17th on the world platform down from around number one in the 1950’s just prior to the unionized teacher syndrome that has ruined the public school system and their liberal methods of “feel good education”.

The public schools have yet to prove they can cut the mustard even though the cost per student in Burlington is over $10,000 per year and not the measly $5500.00 they claim. The school board only claims what they collect from local school taxes and not the other half of what they receive from the state and federal governments. The actual cost in Burlington is probably closer to $12,000 than it is to $11,000 per student per year.

At least something in Burlington works right and produces a good quality product. Yet the public schools are always trying to change how they teach which has never been better than it was back in the mid 20th century but has constantly ruined what was once an excellent system but now only available in non-government schools.

Spike,

"French leader Francois Hollande's new Socialist government got down to work on Thursday with the first order of business a symbolic 30 percent pay cut for the president and ministers."

Would Senator Courtney and other rulers of our local single party Socialist government do the same? They would never impose such austerity on their public employee bargaining unit power base.

Obama's Dangerous Birds of a Feather

Obama's Close Connections to the Violent Far-Left Progressive Students for a Democratic Society — a Known Terrorist Group

WILLIAM AYERS: It’s hard to imagine Obama’s characterization of Ayers as “just a guy who lives down the street” when you consider the president wrote a dust-jacket endorsement for an Ayers book and worked with him five years on the Woods Fund and the Chicago Annenberg Challenge to award nearly $2 million to the Chicago-based Small Schools Workshop (SSW). The SSW was a joint project of Ayers and Michael Klonsky, another charter SDSer, and its mission, according to National Review’s Andrew McCarthy, is to bring the Leftist revolution into the classroom.

BERNARDINE DOHRN: She outranked her husband Ayers in the early SDS hierarchy, serving as one of 10 National Committee members and the only woman. Dohrn, Ayers and Jeff Jones created the splinter Weather Underground where an FBI informant testified the trio was willing to kill the 25 million Americans they expected to resist their planned overthrow of U.S. capitalism. Then-FBI chief J. Edgar Hoover called Dohrn “the most dangerous woman in America.”

Dohrn and Michelle Obama both worked at Chicago’s Sidley Austin law firm in 1988. Barack Obama, Dohrn and Ayers appeared together at several community events, including one organized by Mrs. Obama in her post at the University of Chicago. Today, Dohrn, an associate professor of law at Northwestern University and founder of its Children and Family Justice Center, supports the 150 “New SDS” chapters in U.S. high schools, colleges and universities, writing, “This is the power and the inspiration of a vast, Left umbrella network with variety and vigor.”

TOM HAYDEN: He organized the violent SDS protests at the 1968 Democratic National Convention in Chicago. The former SDS president was elected to the California legislature and occasionally teaches at Occidental College, attended by Obama for his first two undergraduate years. Hayden is an Obama supporter, creating Progressives for Obama to garner votes and money for Obama’s 2008 presidential campaign.

ARYEH NEIER: He founded SDS in 1959, and today he heads Soros’ Open Society Institute and the Soros Foundation Network. That puts Neier in charge of distributing $450 million annually to hundreds, perhaps thousands, of radical progressive groups, according to Michael Coffman, CEO of Sovereignty International. Some of those groups are headed by other SDS alumni, including Drummond Pike, treasurer of Soros’ Democracy Alliance, and Manning Marable of Columbia’s Soros-funded Center for Contemporary Black History.

MARK RUDD: Rudd led SDS protests of 1968 at Columbia University where students took over campus buildings, and he went to Cuba to support Che Guevara and the Castro revolution. Today, he’s a retired community college math teacher and member of Progressives for Obama.

Rudd is either clairvoyant or very well connected to the Obama White House. In a blog post he published just days after Obama’s election, he reassured Leftists that Obama did what was necessary to get elected but has a strategy that will gradually move Left.

“He’ll be progressive on the environment because that has broad popular support; health care will be extended to children, then made universal, but the medical, pharmaceutical and insurance corporations will stay in place, perhaps yielding some power,” Rudd predicted 20 days after Obama’s election. “The economic agenda will stress stimulation from the bottom sometimes and handouts to the top at other times. It will be pragmatic. … On foreign policy and the wars and the use of the military there will be no change at all. That’s what keeping Gates at the Pentagon and Clinton at State and not prosecuting the torturers is saying.”
The ever-radical Rudd supported that “strategy.”

“Anything else will court sure defeat. … Leave the military alone because they’re way too powerful. For now, until enough momentum is raised,” the blog continued. “By the second or third year of this recession, when stimulus is needed at the bottom, people may begin to discuss cutting the military budget.”

JIM WALLIS: The Rev. Wallis, Obama’s “faith adviser” and member of the White House Advisory Council on Faith-based and Neighborhood Partnerships, cut his radical teeth at Michigan State University where investigative journalist Trevor Loudon reports Wallis led the militant SDS chapter. Wallis went on to Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Illinois and helped establish what would become Sojourners, a radical community he moved to Washington, D.C., in 1977.

“Wallis’ Sojourners enterprise has been a radical, socialistic undertaking from the start,” wrote Dr. David Noebel in Christian Worldview. According to Noebel, Sojourners’ members “shared their finances and participated in various activist campaigns that centered on attacking the U.S. foreign policy, denouncing American ‘imperialism,’ and extolling Marxist revolutionary movements in the Third World.”

MARILYN KATZ: The petite 60-something is a Chicago public-relations and political consultant today, well connected to the Chicago Democratic machine. In 1968, Katz headed security for the aforementioned 1968 DNC protests. FBI files credit her with obtaining welded clusters of sharpened nails for SDS attacks on police. Former Chicago Mayor Richard Daley Jr. signed a number of lucrative deals with her firm during his administration, including, ironically, a $5 million contract to do PR for the Chicago Police Department.
Katz claims credit for introducing Obama to Chicago’s “activist network,” and when the Chicago Sun-Times ran a story linking Ayers and Obama, it was “political strategist” Katz who was quoted, saying, “What Bill Ayers … did 40 years ago has nothing to do with Obama’s presidency.” (No mention of her own SDS history, though.) The Obama campaign website shows she bundled between $50,000 and $100,000 for him in 2008, and she’s already listed as a top bundler for Obama’s 2012 reelection effort.

PAUL BOOTH:
Once a national SDS leader, Booth is called the political “brains behind the leadership” of AFSCME, the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees union, since 1974. A Democratic Socialists of America columnist recently called Booth “an organizing legend outside of the labor movement.” Booth serves on the board of the Midwest Academy (MA), a Chicago-based “influential training ground for organizers” that uses the Saul Alinsky model. Booth has White House connections through his union role and Midwest Academy and trained Andy Stern, a young social worker who would go on to head the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) and become an Obama economic advisor. During his presidential campaign, Obama said, “SEIU’s goals are my goals.”

HEATHER BOOTH: She’s Paul’s wife and director of the Midwest Academy. While there’s no direct evidence Obama trained there for his community-organizing days, he did have a role in funding it. During Obama’s tenure on the Woods Foundation board, MA received successive years of start-up grant funding. And WorldNetDaily reported that MA offered two- to four-day “Camp Obama” training to 2008 campaign workers. The David Horowitz Freedom Center describes the Midwest Academy as an Alinsky-inspired school that teaches “radical activists tactics of direct action, targeting, confrontation, and intimidation.”

“Alinsky is to community-organizing as Freud is to psychoanalysis,” said Booth, who was invited to the White House for the signing of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act.

MICHAEL KLONSKY: Klonsky was SDS’ top national official when the organization began to split. Instead of joining the Weathermen, Klonsky formed the October League, a Maoist group. “He was so highly thought of by Mao’s regime that he was among the first Americans invited to visit Communist China,” observed National Review’s McCarthy in 2008. “[T]he Communist leadership hailed Klonsky’s party as ‘reflecting the aspirations of the proletariat and working people’.”

Klonsky became a University of Illinois education professor. He and Ayers reconnected to cofound the Small Schools Workshop in 1991, where Klonsky said the goal is to teach science by planting an urban garden while learning about “the imbalance in how fresh produce is distributed” and math problems that predict “the dynamics behind income inequality or racial profiling.” Obama chaired the Annenberg Challenge when it gave the SSW a $1 million grant and sat on the boards of two other funds that anted up nearly another $1 million to the project.

Obama apparently thought so much of Klonsky’s education positions that Klonsky had an “education politics and teaching for social justice” blog on Obama’s campaign website. But when someone made the SDS connection, McCarthy said the campaign “scrubbed the site of all Klonsky traces—a fitting Stalinesque purge.”

Today, Klonsky is one of at least seven former SDSers helping revive the organization, now called Movement for a Democratic Society, and one of at least eight who are Progressives for Obama.

JEFF JONES: He’s the quintessential SDS alum who still has his fingers in multiple radical pies. Jones was on the SDS National Council and helped Ayers and Dohrn form the Weathermen. Arrested in 1981 for his role in an armored truck robbery, he became a reporter and editor covering New York state government before becoming communications director for a state environmental lobby. Today, few clients of his New York media and campaign-planning firm, Jeff Jones Strategies, likely remember mug shots of the lanky man in jeans and a tank top.

Jones also co-founded the Soros-connected Apollo Alliance that’s credited with helping write ObamaCare and the Obama stimulus bill. Former Obama Green Jobs Czar Van Jones, a self-described communist, has also served on the Apollo board, along with John Podesta of Soros’ Center for American Progress.
WADE RATHKE: The head of discredited ACORN has many acronyms attached to his resume, including as a ’60s SDS draft-resistance activist at Williams College in Massachusetts. He co-founded the Soros-funded Tides Foundation, was head of an SEIU local and chaired the AFL-CIO Organizers Forum. An Alinsky follower, Rathke once put the web of radical interests into context when he advised Leftists to “build a bridge in the sky that links our worlds together while allowing us to stay autonomous and anonymous.”

An Alinsky follower, Rathke once put the web of radical interests into context when he advised Leftists to “build a bridge in the sky that links our worlds together while allowing us to stay autonomous and anonymous.”

KAREN NUSSBAUM: She visited Cuba under an SDS project organized by Dohrn in 1969. Today, Nussbaum is executive director of the AFL-CIO’s Working America subsidiary, reporting to union chief Richard Trumka in her efforts to “offer our support and encouragement to Occupy Wall Street’s message.”

No More Movies at CEC

Spike,

Over the weekend I attended two movies, The Avengers and The Raven at the new CEC theater. I'll never go back. What a waste of my money.

The Avengers sound volume was so loud it hurt my ears along with the people in the row ahead and behind me. I thought it was a mistake and ventured out two days later to see The Raven. All the kids running the place could have cared less the sound was shaking the seats.

I'm never going back. I'll wait to stream the new movies online from Netflix, eat my popcorn and watch with the remote in one hand and a beer in the other.

Huh?

Is Satan's Flock Scattering

The Little Weasel Found a Bone

Spike,

"Besides his shortcomings, Scheffler behavior in recent years either raises suspicions, or suggests that all he is mostly interested in is getting re-elected to his RNC post."

It looks like Satan's social issue sheep have gotten into the smart weed.

Satan has set his sights on Ron Paul's rubles. Evidently that is where there is more political money to be made. There is no sweeter sulfur to Satan's nose than money.

Those who have drunk deeply from Satan's purple kool aid communion cup collection plate realize they are being sold out. Satan is more concerned with his standing among the herd of devils in D. C. than promoting unpopular social issues in Iowa.

As the sheep get smarter, is there a chance any of them will do the right thing? Will any of those betrayed for Satan's new master tell the world what they know?

You keep mentioning money and missing hard drives. Is there any chance something interesting may turn up?

Reasons for Gas Land Gang Robbery Cover Up

Spike:

There could be numerous reasons why Burlington police failed to follow up on the Gas Land gang robbery.

#1 Person or persons involved related to someone on the police force

#2 Person or persons involved related to someone with ties to city government

#3 Person or persons involved had special citizen status because of race, religion or national origin

#4 Police were instructed by others to not make known what is going on in Burlington to keep the status quo

#5 Police and city officials trying to maintain a false low crime view of Burlington

#6 Police and city officials trying to contain the truth that Burlington is the third highest rated city for crime in Iowa

#7 The police just didn’t feel they had the expertise to solve the crime even though there was a video

#8 Police had the wrong book of laws at the time and thought this crime rated a hide it status and not a solve status

#9 Democrats in town may not have wanted to lose a block of voters by making the crime public

Whatever the reason there just had to be a secret meeting of the dimwits in town to suppress the story and in fact never mention the crime or release the video; so the population would not hear of the crime but it did leak out and appear blogs such as this one. I wonder what other criminal stuff has disappeared from the evidence locker down at the police station?

Burlington officials have a habit of hiding the details of events to keep the local one party voters ignorant of just what goes on here in Burlington. Why would the police hide the crime when most other cities release the videos in order to solve the crimes committed in this manner?

There’s one city within 200 miles of Burlington that put warnings on the front page of the local paper instructing visitors and citizens what to do if they venture out at night or during the daytime. Actually at night it was recommended one not go out at all and walk in pairs during the daytime for self protection. We here in Burlington are under the same situation as this city within 200 miles of us and yet nothing has ever appeared in the paper about the high crime and what people should due to alter their habits for self protection. At night here in Burlington there are people wondering all over the town looking for easy prey to commit one crime or another on unknowing citizens.

One thing about it, if Burlington had a real paper with real journalist they would investigate why crimes go unreported all the time in this town and do something worthwhile for the citizens besides selling papers for the sole purpose of printing the obituaries and sports scores while never mentioning the crooked government or high crime status and a host of other city problems.

People in Burlington should realize a one party system never works and Burlington proves this beyond a doubt, inept to the core.

Obama - Half Way to Defeat

Spike,

"During the speech, Obama ripped into the presumptive GOP nominee and discussed nation building at home, but the most newsworthy item of the day was not the talking points Obama delivered: it was the crowd... or lack thereof. According to ABC News, the Obama campaign had expected an "overflow" of people. Instead, the arena looked half-empty. The Columbus Dispatch reports that Obama organizers even had people move from the seats to the floor of the gym in order to project a larger crowd on television."

9 Steps to Solvency

Spike:

First-the city should reign in the collective bargaining of the government union employees an unelected fourth branch of government and reduce the salaries of the management staff that’s excessive for a near bankrupt small town.

Second-our city has been living high on the hog at the expense of the private sector for at least 20 years regardless of the recession. Burlington demographics has changed drastically over the past 20 years with the decline of a working middle class replaced by a nonworking entitlement group, just look around this town and see what’s happening.

Third-Burlington continues its industrial decline to the point there are few to no middle class jobs to be found any longer. Most of the smart people have already fled the state taking their tax money, work ethic and skills with them leaving just a few of the major industrial rustbelt jobs behind. Once GE votes in the union that plant will probably be moved to a non-union location and the taxpayers will be out the money paid to keep the plant here just a few months ago.

Fourth-we can no longer afford the cost of failed government on the local, state and federal level. Here in Burlington we have only one party controlled by the government unions which has failed over and over again to clean up their act and make sound decisions that benefit all the population and not just the government union employees. We have no checks and balances here in Burlington and haven’t for years on end. Just look around the country and most major bankrupt cities are all run by democrats with their unknowing carless ways of conducting business, ties to unions and poor to horrible decision making.

Fifth-just look what they’ve done to our Cascade Bridge, the Manor failure, the RecPlex, the water park and the list of bad investments just keeps growing while the spec. building in the industrial park sits empty for how many years now. The RecPlex only lost $22,000 this year so they say but that’s on top of $100,000 per year for the first approximately ten years of operation and where do you suppose that million dollars came from. That RecPlex has cost the taxpayer millions and now their wanting to expand it without even taking a vote on it but of course a vote in Burlington is meaningless because the library was voted down twice and they still built it. I wonder how much tax money it cost to run the new library versus the old library?

Sixth-thank the railroad for maintaining their own tracks or you could imagine what the crossings would be like if Burlington were responsible for them, probably unusable. On the county level government sold out the voter by giving the ethanol plant 20 years of no taxes, again who do you think is paying for their share of the fire protection, police and all the other benefits their taxes would have paid for? I wonder how many local politicians employed by the county bought stock in the ethanol plant and what dividends their getting for their free ride from the taxpayer.

Seventh-the “privileged class” of government employee in Burlington, Des Moines County, State of Iowa and Federal Government must end with their pay and benefits rolled back down into private sector levels where in Iowa its, on average 45% more than what the private sector earns when performing the same function.

Eighth-its time Burlington faced the facts and stopped trying to act like something it no longer is, a thriving city and start living in the real world and stop all this reckless spending and just plain rotten decision making by electing a system of government that represents all the people and not just government employee unions.

Ninth-the city should be run like a business and not a haven for grossly overpaid and benefitted government union employees. This includes the school system that has been on a spending binge for years now building all new schools for a basically failing system on the decline with students opting out for other districts. We also need school board elections tied in with the general election; so union employees can’t overwhelm the system with their votes since these oddball elections don’t bring out the voters like a general election does. Move the school elections from September to November in sync with the general elections to give others a chance at electing someone other than continuing with the same old failed method that always ends without any checks and balances.

Burlington - Iowa's Iberia

Spanish Youth Urged to Seek Work Abroad

Spike,

José Ramón Pin Arboledas, a professor at the IESE business school at the University of Navarra in Spain told the Financial Times "The delay in entering the workforce risks scarring a generation of young people, and argues that those who can should move abroad if they need to."

Spain is a mess. A high public debt and economic gloom has led many of its young best and brightest to flee. As stated above, there are worries those who remain will be traumatized.

This sounds like nearly the last two generations to come of age in Burlington. The census figures confirm it. Will it ever end, or will Burlington become a suburb of Wever?

A new City Manager has laid bare Burlington's fiscal mismanagement. Dumb projects, ignored necessities and a huge debt are no longer being kept under the carpet.

Will Burlington bite the bullet and put its house in order, or will we count on the likes of State Senator Courtney for a welfare check?

Bankrupt - Every Critic of The Slagle-Worden Taxpayer Rape Vindicated

Slug Worden Holdover Ignores $2.3 Million Deficit In Treasurer's Report as 'Not Projected'

The new guy, City Manager Jim Ferneau, has been on the job a week and this is what he found.

Burlington runs their finances the way Heland gambled; on borrowed money.

"We have very serious financial issues to deal with and this is something that a lot of focus needs to be put on over the coming months and effectively years to get to a spot where we're in sound shape," he said. "We don't have the funds to do, really, anything at this point. We have a financial house that needs to be gotten in order."

Meanwhile, former Super Slug Doug Worden suddenly has answers to nothing but his incompetence.

Know nothing Flip Flop Mayor Davison is now alarmed.

Super Criminal Bruce Slagle is in the Mexico, MO. Super Slug Worden is slopping up his taxpayer funded IPERS retirement account. Lost Keys Bill Ell is still looking for his moral compass.

Everyone else is shoveling the crap these incompetent boobs unleashed.

When Will This Lunacy Stop?

Spike:

There was a letter to the editor from a Ms. (Kelso) Sturms of Keokuk who had lost her mother on Friday the 13th of April and was on her way to Walgreens at Central and Division. She was feeling ill and went to get some medicine when one of Burlington’s finest pulled her over because her husband had not put on his seatbelt for the ride from St. Johns where they had been looking at lights that had been dedicated to her parents.

Anyway, officer Pope gave her a ticket because her husband hadn’t put on his seatbelt and jumped her for the expired insurance card even though the new one was on the kitchen table in Keokuk.

Regardless of that the officer was unconcerned about her mother’s death and wouldn’t even acknowledge the fact when told of her death. What all this boils down to is Ms. Sturms was not a relative of someone on the force nor did she know anyone working for the city or police departments. If her name had been Delaney, Bell, Thomas or a host of others who are friends or relatives of the in crowd down at city hall and the police station the second set of “special circumstances” books would have been used and Mr. Strum would have been free to go after a friendly chat at curb side.

Justice in Burlington depends on what a person’s name is and there’s plenty of evidence this is true with some law breakers let off the hook time after time simply because of their ties to city hall or the police station. Burlington through its one party system allows this to go on because the union people and the entitlement crowd continue to elect the same people time and time again regardless of their qualifications. Burlington law and Burlington city management will never change because of the political lopsidedness in the branches of government. Burlington has a system of no checks and balances that leads to corruption and nepotism.

Maybe Ms. Strums did forget to put her new card in the car but all the officer had to do was check it out on his computer, I’m sure that information was available via the department and the insurance company. Rather than adding to Ms. Strums grief the police could do something about the constant 40 to 50 mph speeders traveling along Summer Street and many other local 30 mph streets here in town. Or looking at the Gas Land videotape to identify the flash mob participants.

Burlington has a habit of slitting its own throat time and time again through the one party system of mayhem.

Burlington Water Quality Slips

Spike,

For several years now I’ve wondered what has happened to the taste of Burlington’s water. There have been changes in the methods of purifying our water made down at the water works and I think whatever they did really degraded the taste of our water.

My cat will never drink the water if over just a few hours old even when dying of thirst. I myself notice if I leave a glass of water standing for a few hours it tastes something awful.

My understanding is they stopped using chlorine several years ago but I don’t know if that’s the answer to the awful taste or not but something is really rank about the local water which in prior years was really good even if it did stand a few hours of even over night.

Burlington & Des Moines County Excels In Sexually Transmitted Diseases

Spike:

It just amazes me to see Davenport and Des Moines County (Burlington) leading the state in the rankings for sexual transmitted diseases to go along with the 2nd and 3rd rankings for crime respectively.

Chlamydia is a major infectious cause of human genital and eye disease. Chlamydia infection is one of the most common sexually transmitted infections worldwide; it is estimated that about 1 million individuals in the United States are infected with Chlamydia.[1]

Gonorrhea is caused by the bacteria Neisseria gonorrhoeae. The infection is transmitted from one person to another through vaginal, oral, or anal sex.[3] Men have a 20% risk of getting the infection from a single act of vaginal intercourse with an infected woman. The risk for men who have sex with men is higher.[6] Women have a 60–80% risk of getting the infection from a single act of vaginal intercourse with an infected man.[7] A mother may transmit gonorrhea to her newborn during childbirth; when affecting the infant's eyes, it is referred to as ophthalmia neonatorum. [2]

Here’s a good source for finding out about STD’s: Sexually Transmitted Diseases - swollen, symptoms, average, Definition, Description, Demographics, Causes and symptoms. [3]

In 2009, the rate of Chlamydia among blacks was 8 times higher than that in whites. Rates among American Indians/Alaska Natives and Hispanics were also higher than among whites. [3]

Moreover, the 2009 rate of gonorrhea among blacks was 20.5 times greater than among whites in 2009. American Indian/Alaska Natives and Hispanics are also disproportionately affected. [3]

Burlington has come a long way over the past decade or so in becoming the armpit of Iowa for drugs, crime and now sexual transmitted diseases. Adding in the high taxes, schools on probation, falling down infrastructure, excessive fees for cable, Internet and water it’s hard to imagine why anyone would want to live here unless their feeding at the trough or supported by the taxpayer.

Not Performing Up to Expectations

Spike,

There has recently been a total lack of stupidity on the part of Burlington's City Council. It is getting worrisome.

Maybe it was a City Manager in a care takers role. Nothing stupid was brought forth because there was nobody to follow through on the foolishness. That has changed.

As Burlington's new City Manager adjusts to his new position, we should all watch for the first flickering of something monumentally moronic. With History as our guide, our disappointment should end soon.

The path to bin Laden’s death didn’t start with Obama

Obama's Banned Interrogation Methods Yield Results

"With some trying to turn bin Laden’s death into a campaign talking point for Obama’s reelection, it is useful to remember that the trail to bin Laden started in a CIA black site — all of which Obama ordered closed, forever, on the second full day of his administration — and stemmed from information obtained from hardened terrorists who agreed to tell us some (but not all) of what they knew after undergoing harsh but legal interrogation methods. Obama banned those methods on Jan. 22, 2009."
